Ultrastructural changes in the intestines of turkey poults and embryos affected with transmissible enteritis.

چکیده
Transmissible enteritis is a turkey disease of viral aetiology. The disease has been described in the United States and Canada, and a similar clinical syndrome has been observed in Australia. Histological changes in the intestine have been described (Adams, Ball and Hofstad, 1970), including shortened microvilli, slight oedema, a decrease in argentafhn cells and an increase followed by a decrease in goblet cells depending on the stage of infection. Adams and Hofstad (197 1) have shown that it is possible to propagate the agent in the intestine of turkey embryos. Studies on the disease have been hampered by the inability to cultivate the causative agent outside its host. Enteritis of viral origin is probably important in many species, but few viral enteritides have been well characterized. Electron microscopic observations were made to obtain a better understanding of this disease and to attempt to demonstrate the aetiological agent.

Serologic response of turkeys to an agent associated with infectious enteritis (bluecomb).
The serologic response of turkey poults to an infectious enteritis (bluecomb disease) agent was analyzed. Serum samples collected from poults on post-inoculation days 3, 7, 14, and 21 were compared to serum from normal poults by electrophoresis and immunoelectrophoresis. Albumin concentrations were decreased whereas alpha and gamma globulins were increased during the disease. Qualitative and qu...

Fecal samples of 60 turkey poults that showed chronic progressive symptoms like unthriftiness, loss ofweight, diarrhea were collected from the most rural areas with high rate of turkey population in north andwest part of country for intestinal protozoan parasites. متن کاملThe effect of different levels of sodium chloride on round heart disease in the turkey
Round heart disease is a disease of unknown etiology in turkey. The objective of this study was to examinethe effect of different amounts of sodium chloride in inducing cardiomyopathy in turkey poults. There are some reports that hypoxia and furazolidone can induce cardiomyopathy in turkey. Two hundred 2-day-old turkey poults were wing-banded and placed randomly into 6 groups and 24 replicates ...

The effects of dietary supplementation of the direct-fed microbial (DFM) Primalac in mash or crumbled feed on histological and ultrastructural changes of intestinal mucosa was determined in 2 populations of poults; 1 with and 1 without a Salmonella spp. challenge. Three hundred thirty-six 1-d-old female Large White turkey poults were randomly distributed into 8 treatment groups with 6 replicate...

From 2003 to 2006, samples of intestinal content and spleens from 10-day-old to 6-week-old fattening turkeys showing clinical signs of enteritis were analyzed by specific PCR and RT-PCRs for detection of haemorrhagic enteritis virus (HEV), avian reovirus (ARV), turkey astrovirus-2 (TastV-2), and turkey coronavirus (TCV). A total of 23 flocks from 6 farms were included in the study. Specific seq...
